Forget the detox diet and lets ‘cleanse’ your pantry, fridge and freezer instead. A kitchen makeover will help ensure you have the right foods on hand for healthy meal prep and, if stored properly, you’ll reduce food waste, too.
A well-stocked kitchen of wholesome ingredients goes hand-in-hand with great home cooking. If you can keep these clean and organized, family meals can happen more efficiently. We are headed for Autumn here in SA but my mom has always been amazing at this – clearing out twice a year, EVERY year. She goes through clothes, laundry cupboards, kitchen cupboards, the pantry… Feeling thus inspired I’ve put together my top tips to help you spring (or autumn) clean your pantry, fridge and freezer. (Plus tidying out cupboards really gives me that super self-righteous feeling of #winningatlife!)
3 Step Kitchen Makeover:
STEP 1, CLEAR OUT: Take everything out and clean your pantry, fridge and freezer well. Check for evidence of pests and discard any expired products. Draw up a menu plan to use up any products nearing expiry and start a shopping list of any expired necessities to replace.
STEP 2 , REORGANIZE: Transfer any products in opened packages to clearly labelled, sealed containers – I label with stickers on the side or paint chalkboard paint on the lids of jars to make it easy to see what’s what depending on what height they sit on my shelf. Move forgotten products forward. Put wholesome options at eye level/easy reach and hide away the treats.
STEP 3 PREPARE: Set yourself up for success by restocking your fridge, freezer and pantry with healthy options. Ready to become a savvy, healthy shopper? Download and print my busy person’s guide to stocking up on healthy options.
