The lovely people at Spar got in touch with me and asked if I would like to try out some products from their Freshline range. The Freshline range includes a huge variety of fruits, vegetables and baked products. In the end I decided to try one of their (wholegrain) baked products as well as some of the lovely vegetables and fruits. The range also includes a number of great convenience options e.g. readymade soups, chopped/peeled veggies and fruit packs – great for on-the-go eating and cooking.
“At SPAR, we are committed to maintaining the high standards of our Freshline products in the following ways:
- We specially select the growers, farmers and producers of our Bakery & produce Ranges.
- We ensure that they conform to high standards of hygiene and quality in production by using external auditors to perform inspections.
- We regularly visit suppliers to ensure they maintain these high standards.
- We check products delivered to our distribution centre’s to ensure that they are of the correct quality and temperature.”
The only nice to have that was missing from the Freshline products I tried (this especially applies to baked goods) is a Nutrition Information Panel (lists total energy, fat, protein, fibre, sugar etc. per 100g/per serving of the product) – a great tool for portion control and weight management. The products are however clearly labeled for potential allergens and do include an ingredients list (just a side note: ingredients are always listed from largest contributor to smallest i.e. if fat or sugar are very near the top of this list – this is not a good sign).
Overall, the products I tried were delicious, satisfying and fresh. I have had a great time trying them out and have worked them into some lovely recipes which I will be sharing with you through this week.
Now for the fun stuff: Spar have given me a R300 Spar voucher to giveaway to one lucky reader.
